Exploring the effects of speed and scale on a ship’s form factor using CFD

The problem of predicting a ship’s form factor and associated scale effects has been subject to many investigations in recent years. In this study, an attempt is made investigate whether the influenced by change speed numerically modelling geosim series KCS hull means RANS solver. turbulence dependence also studied altering closure model among three widely used approaches (the k-?, k-? SST, k-? models). results show that at very low speeds (Froude numbers range 0.02–0.06) numerical predicts changes ship between 10% 20%, depending on choices. Simulations where Reynolds number changed approximately two orders magnitude, achieved value viscosity, confirmed can be considered Froude-dependent only for speeds, essentially identical values when high cases are considered.
